Dr Jarosław Protasiewicz, Head of OPI PIB opened a session dedicated to the application of artificial intelligence in medicine. Discussions emphasised the practical impact of AI in diagnostics and treatment selection.
One of the central points of the event was the presentation of the AI4AR platform, created by Dr Rafał Jóźwiak and his team at the OPI PIB’s Innovation Centre for Digital Medicine. The platform is developed as part of the AI-enhanced radiology – detection, reporting, and clinical decision making in prostate cancer diagnosis project and assists radiology experts in interpreting prostate MRI scans. By using advanced AI models, it enhances diagnostic precision and reduces the time needed to determine a treatment plan.
Throughout the conference, visitors had the opportunity to experience AI4AR in action at our booth, talk to its developers, and test the system’s features. The project is funded by the INFOSTRATEG I program of the National Centre for Research and Development.
Another key moment of the conference was the discussion panel organized by OPI PIB, titled “The Development of Digital Medicine – How to Improve Interdisciplinary Cooperation?”, moderated by Dr Rafał Jóźwiak. The panel featured:
- Jarosław Protasiewicz, PhD, DSc (National Information Processing Institute),
- Professor Wojciech Fendler, DMSc (Medical Research Agency),
- Zbigniew Nawrat, PhD, DSc (Professor Zbigniew Religa Foundation of Cardiac Surgery Development, Medical University of Silesia),
- Anna Czarnecka, DMSc (National Centre for Research and Development),
- Professor Andrzej Małecki, DMSc (Academy of Physical Education in Katowice).
The discussion focused on the need to integrate competencies – from science and technology to clinical medicine – and on how to create digital tools that are safe, truly useful, and tailored to the real needs of both physicians and patients.
The conference in Zabrze confirmed that the future of medicine is closely tied to technology – and at OPI PIB, we are actively shaping that future.
