LLMs4EU to be developed with OPI PIB

News
OPI PIB has become a partner in the LLMs4EU project, which is fundamentally driven by the principles of linguistic diversity and Europe's digital sovereignty. The project seeks to ensure that specific European languages are not marginalized in the digital age due to insufficient resources required to train language models.

LLMs4EU is founded on close collaboration between academic institutions and private sector stakeholders. The initiative will offer access for small and medium-sized enterprises across Europe to cutting-edge language tools, facilitating model training and compliance with EU legal regulations, such as the GDPR and the AI act.

The project will also develop infrastructure to support the creation and testing of language models for use in a variety of sectors, including energy, tourism, telecommunications, and science. The project will prioritise new language datasets for less commonly spoken European languages.

The project consortium unites over sixty partners from twenty countries, ensuring that the project reflects the linguistic and geographical diversity of Europe. The leader of the consortium is Alliance Pour Les Technologies Des Langues (ATL-EDIC). The coordination and implementation of the project at OPI PIB has been entrusted to the AI LAB team.

LLMs4EU is funded by the European Commission as part of the Digital Europe programme.
