Two female OPI PIB experts appointed to the Council for Women in Higher Education and Science
On 7 March 2025, the Polish Minister of Science and Higher Education announced the establishment of the Council for Women in Higher Education and Science. This new advisory body is intended to support efforts to promote gender equality in academia, monitor the situation of women in science, and recommend solutions aimed at improving their working conditions and supporting their scientific career development. The Minister appointed two female experts from OPI PIB to join the Council – Dr Agnieszka Chłoń-Domińczak, professor at SGH and chief research specialist at the Laboratory of Statistical Analysis, and Dr Anna Knapińska, assistant professor in the Data Science Team.
Women lead gender equality efforts in higher education institutions
International Women’s Day is an opportunity to take a closer look at gender equality at Polish higher education institutions and research institutes. A study conducted by the National Information Processing Institute (OPI PIB) on behalf of the Polish Ministry of Science and Higher Education (MNiSW) reveals that 34% of 534 institutions, the majority of which are public, have adopted Gender Equality Plans (GEPs). To put this number in a perspective, in 2020, only one institution had such a plan. Conversely, only 4% of private higher education institutions in Poland have implemented GEPs. The results of the OPI PIB study also show that the implementation and compliance with gender equality principles in the higher education sector are mainly the responsibility of women. They accounted for as much as 81% of the respondents who participated in the study.
PLLuM: a model co-created by OPI PIB ready for action
On 24 February 2025, the Polish Ministry of Digital Affairs presented the Polish language model PLLuM and the plan for its development. The project was conducted by a consortium of organisations, with the National Information Processing Institute (OPI PIB) as one of its members. The model’s performance was tested using the Polish Linguistic and Cultural Competency Benchmark, which was also developed by experts at OPI PIB. The conference at which PLLum was showcased was attended by Dr Marek Kozłowski, Head of AI Lab at OPI PIB.

The National Information Processing Institute — National Research Institute (OPI PIB) has partnered with PKO Bank Polski (PKO BP) to develop innovative language models that improve the accuracy of customer intent recognition. The project’s advanced AI R&D is led by AI Lab, a dedicated team at OPI PIB that specialises in Polish neural language models.
