The collaboration covers major fields, including computer science, telecommunications, social sciences, information technology, telecommunications, social sciences, as well as management and quality studies. The initiative is designed to improve students’ competencies, to address real-world technological and organisational challenges, and to facilitate the creation of collaborative scientific publications.

‘Signing the agreement with the University of Warsaw marks an important step towards strengthening the link between academia and practice. Our objective is to involve students early on in solving practical issues connected to the evolution of modern public services and technologies. The PraktykON programme will enable us to jointly develop solutions with strong implementation potential while investing in the growth of future experts,’ says Dr Jarosław Protasiewicz, Head of the National Information Processing Institute. ‘I would also like to mention that we are already planning to sign similar agreements with other leading universities,’ he adds.

The collaboration with the University of Warsaw enables OPI PIB to access the latest academic knowledge and facilitates the recruitment of talented young individuals who may, in the future, join the institute’s research and project teams. The programme also fosters the development of innovative technological solutions with potential applications in public systems and projects implemented by OPI PIB. It further contributes to improving the quality of scientific research and establishing long-term relationships with public-sector and technology institutions.

–‘PraktykON offers the University of Warsaw the chance to connect its academic pursuits with the practical know-how of a research institute. This collaboration supports the creation of theses that focus on real technological and organisational challenges, thereby increasing their scientific and practical value. The University of Warsaw also extends its academic achievements through shared research projects and collaborative publications. Additionally, the university strengthens its position as a modern academic centre by building lasting partnerships with the public and technology sectors, says Prof. Dariusz Kuźmina, Dean of the Faculty of Journalism, Information and Book Studies, University of Warsaw.

Benefits for students

Participation in the PraktykON programme will be most advantageous for students. They are given the opportunity to complete their theses in collaboration with experienced experts and gain access to real data and research problems. The programme helps students gain practical experience, engage in projects with tangible outcomes, and build competencies valued by employers. Participants also have the opportunity to co-create innovative solutions that may later be implemented or further developed in collaboration with OPI PIB. The programme also offers individual support from an academic supervisor and an institute mentor, contributing to significantly higher standards pertaining to the preparation of theses.

The PraktykON programme follows a broader trend to enhance collaboration between academia, research and development institutions, and public administration. These kinds of initiatives promote the development of new, practical solutions aimed at solving real-life social and economic problems. The agreement has been concluded for an indefinite period, opening the way for long-term collaboration between the two institutions. The first joint diploma projects under the PraktykON programme are scheduled to commence in the upcoming academic year.

For more information on the PraktykON programme visit https://opi.org.pl/kariera/praktykon/

On 28 April 2026 in Warsaw, a collaboration agreement was signed between the National Information Processing Institute (OPI PIB) and the University of Warsaw (UW).
